Originally set up in 1994, Christian Smith’s Tronic label holds a special place in techno circles. A leading force in shaping a less purist techno sound Tronic was amongst the first labels to embrace sounds from house and techno to create records that DJ’s from both scenes would play. With tracks and remixes from Umek, Mark Broom, Stryke, Fergie, Steve Mac, Anton Pieete and Psycatron Tronic has emerged with a bang in 2009.
The Search, created Dobre & Jamez aka Trancesetters, was originally released on the legendry Dutch label, Touché in 1995; quickly becoming a staple for the likes of Deep Dish, Danny Tenaglia, Laurent Garnier and Carl Cox. Having been re-issued many times in the past decade and remixed by the likes of Armand Van Helden and Xpress 2, this is a genuine classic track that holds a special place in the memories DJs and fans.
Retaining the heavy techno thump of the original, and placing the instantly recognizable vocal loop at the centre of the mix, Christian Smith has succeeding in flavouring the tough, rhythmic groove with heavy doses of funk, and interspersed the raw energy of the production with inspired moments of euphoria.
The Search by Trancesetters is released on Christian Smith’s label Tronic on October 12th.
